Dear Recruiting Team,

I am writing to apply for the Observational Research Manager – US Remote job at Amgen (Job ID: R-184395) as advertised in biospace.com. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize my unique skill set to support Amgen’s mission of serving patients using innovative observational research approaches. Amgen’s, the world’s leading biotechnology company, emphasis on work/life balance and career development opportunities also highly motivated me to apply for this position.

Your position is an excellent fit with my qualifications and research experience. My education and career have given me opportunities to train in Africa, Europe, and the United States. My training in nursing has laid the foundation for building my clinical experience to develop innovative patient-centered observational research projects. My analytical skills as well as observational research project planning and management skills have been honed during master’s and doctoral training in Epidemiology. Independently, I designed, executed, and analyzed multiple innovative observational research studies focusing on chronic diseases and exposing factors using cross-sectional and longitudinal registry-based population data including patients who received pharmacological treatments in the Netherlands and Belgium. To achieve my objectives, I implemented data-driven, multidimensional data reduction, and multilevel analyses models using R, SAS, STATA, and SPSS. During my postdoctoral training I worked on developing a data-driven decision-making model to select personalized treatment for patients in the Netherlands. Additionally, I led and managed four observational studies using maternal and fetal growth data collected from 12 sites in the United States. Through this experience, I collaborated with multi-disciplinary investigators from different institutes, presented research findings at national and international scientific conferences and published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in observational research or clinical journals.

In addition to my research and communication skills, I have sought opportunity to develop my leadership skills. I served as the Chair of the Health Science Education Development Center funded by USAID/HRH-JHPIEGO program and the Head of Health Science College Academic Quality Assurance and Relevance. I led six program division Chiefs and coordinated projects focusing on strengthening research and teaching capacity of health science and medicine staffs. I was also able to work with over 10 undergraduate and graduate students, teaching them epidemiological study designs, analytic techniques, and project planning and management skills.

I would welcome the opportunity to expand upon my qualification in an interview. I feel my combined research, leadership, and written communication skills would make me an excellent match for this role. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Please feel free to contact me at tesfa.habtewold@nih.gov or (xxx) xxx-0000 if you need additional information.

Sincerely,
Tesfa D. Habtewold
