Subject: Postdoctoral fellowships in genetic epidemiology of early growth and cardiometabolic diseases

Dear Dr. Fasil,

I am writing to apply for the postdoctoral fellowship position in genetic epidemiology of early growth and cardiometabolic diseases at the Epidemiology Branch, Division of Population Health Research, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Development and Human Health, National Institutes of Health (NIH). When I read about this fellowship and the overarching theme of your Lab to leverage human genomic epidemiology, I was very excited. I am a well-qualified and experienced researcher who would be an excellent candidate for this position.

Since September 2020, I am working at the department of Quantitative Economics and Clinical Psychological Science, Maastricht University as a postdoctoral researcher and teacher under the supervision of Dr. Nalan Bastruk (Econometrist). I am also working as an invited guest postdoctoral researcher at the department of Epidemiology, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen. My role includes researching mainly supervising students, performing quantitative analysis, writing paper and teaching statistics courses for Bachelor degree students. I studied my Ph.D. at the department of Epidemiology and Psychiatry, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen under the supervision of Professor Marike (+) Boezen (genetic Epidemiologist) and Dr. Behrooz Z. Alizadeh (genetic Epidemiologist), and Professor Richard Bruggeman (Neuropsychiatrist). During my Ph.D. study, I performed advanced quantitative analyses, such as polygenic risk score analysis, multilevel analysis, group-based trajectory modeling, meta-analysis using several software including PLINK, R, SAS, and STATA. Moreover, I have two master degrees and co-authored in more than 50 peer-reviewed papers.

I see this postdoctoral fellowship as an opportunity to develop my own research project and write grant within the theme of your Lab using the wealth of registry data from available cohorts, to collaborate within the Epidemiology Branch, Population Health Research Division and across NIH, and to obtain a wide array of academic training and develop my career. I am excited about the opportunity to be part of your lab.

Enclosed you will find my CV. Please let me know if I can provide additional information or materials required for my application. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration of my application. I look forward to hearing from you. In an interview, I would like to explain my application letter and CV in more detail.

Yours sincerely,

Tesfa D. Habtewold
